Project description Festo:
Automatical transport generation and automated transportation activities
GPC created a customer specific freight calculation and freight settlement tool for the company Festo AG & Co, which is a world wide leading producer of automatisation techniques, pneumatic components and systems. This ’original version’ of the standard module Freight calculation and freight settlement included already a simplified condition technique for zone and weight depending freight rates, as also a service agent and customer related freight calculation procedure.
Automatic shipment creation using IDOC-technique
An external warehouse management system sends delivery items and allocated packing informations using EDI. A program in the leading SAP R/3 system collects these informations and packs the delivery items. The packing is done with a one-level-hierarchy (in the delivery document) and in a two-level-hierarchy (in the delivery document and in the shipment document). Furtheron the deliveries (IDOCs) are allocated automatically to shipments using Call transaction (VT01 and VT02). Based on the delivery informations the system determines shipment relevant data like transportation planning point, shipment type, service agent and shipment route by using especially created tables in R/3. A special index controls whether the delivery has to be added to an existing shipment or whether it is necessary to create a new shipment. It is also checked whether a distribution point has to be used in the transportation chain.
Automatic shipment processing
GPC expanded the SAP-standard functionalities ‘shipment planning’ and ’shipment processing’ with customer specific functionalities. For example the system checks whether a goods issue scanning is mandatory and if yes whether this scanning has already taken place. This scanning can be done automatically which means the information of the scanner is directly transmitted to the program functions. There is no manual activity in this process. Also the freight calculation is integrated in the shipment processing. The freight results and the cost for packing material - defined in the material master - are allocated to the relevant delivery items and transferred to the SD billing process.
