Project description Nestlé:
Migration of master data R/2 -> R/3, shipment simulation and plausibility check of planned shipments
Nestlé S.A., the french subsidiary of the world wide present food producing company of the same name already installed the R/2_RT transportation solution together with GPC.
Migration of master data R/2 and R/3
Already in R/2 Nestlé S.A. used the location master and the distance master as parts of the R/2 standard solution in the productive environment. This kind of master data was not available in the R/3 environment which was the reason for the decission to use the GPC standard module ‘Location master / distance master’. Therefore it was necessary to migrate the existing Nestlé-specific master data from R/2 standard to R/3 into the GPC functionality. The data contained the location master, the distance master and the assignments of these data to the SAP standard master data (shipping points, customer master, vendor master). Especially this part of the migration needed high sophisticated tools because the key identification of R/ 2 and R/3 are completely different.
Shipment simulation and plausibility check of planned shipments
Based on the stages of an already planned shipment and the unloading sequence GPC created an additional functionality which allowes the user to calculate all the deadlines of the shipment. A selection report determines all the shipments ready for the deadline calculation. The system calculates the last possible start date of the shipment with respect to restrictions by law and guidelines of industrial law - as average speed, maximum work and drive time, prescribed breaks and customer depending delivery dates and unloading times. The distances are determined within the GPC standard module ‘Location master / distance master’. The entire control by the general conditions is based on table entries. The calculation is possible for truck and for rail shipments. In the case of rail it is not only possible to define time frames for loading and unloading but also specify fixed departure and arrival times of the trains and time frames for the goods transfer from truck to rail. In general all the times and dates are checked against the customer and shipping point depending dates and times. To guarantee that the legal restrictions by law are carried out the system uses a predefined calendar (check for days off work). The shipment is classified as not feasible (error) if the result of the calculation is a last possible start date in the past. In any other case the calculated start date is inserted in the therefore created standard fields for planned start date of the shipment. In the error case the user gets a protocol which allowes him to modify the error reasons (e.g. delivery dates).
