Go Green - Cooperation with Estia

It is fact that the transportation of goods is the main reason for the emission of environmentally devastating gases like CO2 and NOX. GPC discovered very early that this would be a good reason to develop a solution which would enable the customer to change the transportation planning based on the meanwhile well known logic of ‘carbon foot print’. Due to all that reasons GPC looked for a partner with excellent knowledge in this area. GPC found out, that ESTIA would be the right company to work together. ESTIA is a French-Swiss hold company working together very close with the ‘Ecole Polytechnique’ at Lausanne (Switzerland). ESTIA works  for CEN Commission Européenne de Normalisation  as a swiss expert. The interface to their environmental calculator allows GPC now to provide and save any relevant information in this area within SAP. A prototype of this interface is available since October 2009. Based on shipment data prepared by GPC, ESTIA returns the CO2 emissions, energy use, environmental impacts and external costs of transportation for each selected shipment. Every mode of transportation (truck, rail, air, barge, vessel) is supported by this interface.

Electronical Credit Note

Along with GPC Green Logistic supporting activities (Go Green), freight credit notes in the future can be sent to forwarding agents electronically in order to reduce the need of paper significantly.
Yet  the summary sheet will still be sent by letter post – this is necessary because of legal tax issues. Detail data (transportation and itemized costs) will be transferred electronically.
Detail data can either be transferred as a print version of the present transportation and detail costs list or can be converted to XML or EDI format by components of the GPC module Communication Management System (CMS). Transmission paths work via IDOCs, by E-mail in the SAP output control or by file transfer with sequential credit note files.

Electronical Credit Note Process with DB Schenker Rail

DB Schenker Rail will be enabling an electronic exchange of credit data for selected Deutsche Bahn steel customers from 2010 on in a pilot project. GPC will be attending such a pilot customer as an IT partner. Credit note data will be converted to XML format according to Deutsche Bahn IT service provider directives and will be transferred to the Deutsche Bahn customer service center in Duisburg. The service center verifies these data and will then send back a message for correction to the settling rail shipper (in XML-format) if necessary. All cost elements known at shipment start are being captured by this electronic process.
