Performance features of the GPC module
‘Carrier Selection’
(Short description)

1. Aim
The carrier selection is used to find per shipment and per leg a corresponding service agent/carrier by using the condition technique.

2. Method/Criteria
Selection criteria are:
- Priority
- Priority and freight
- Cheapest freight
- Quota (Step 2)
It is possible to define a maximum of the freight totals for a period per quota and service agent/carrier. This maximum is checked in the selection. The selection is called parameter controlled in order to be used in creation of shipments, freight information and freight calculation.

3. Technique
To define agreements with the service agents/carriers the same structures and techniques are used as in the GPC module freight calculation:
- Selection procedure
- Condition structure
- Condition types
- Conditions/contingents
- Columns
- Lines
- Rates
When using quotas based on quota or using the freight calculation, the systems saves the corresponding values and quantities (freight/weight/volume/...) in the used quota.

4. Variants
The selection can be used as a supporting tool for the determination of the service agent/carrier or as the single possibility to assign a service agent/carrier to a shipment. It is possible to process this functionality in batch or online. In online processing the system displays all hits on the screen for selection purpose.

5. Prerequisites
To use the carrier selection, the following measures have to be taken respectively the following GPC modules have to be installed:
- Location file, if location related information shall be used for the condition processing
- Condition administration
- Freight calculation, if calculated freights shall be used for the determination respectively use
  a user-exit to process other modules for the freight determination.
